Electric Pussy — Vol.3 (2019)

Although while googling for Electric Pussy, I already imagined running into tons of "hot" offers from erotic sites, still the result exceeded even my expectations. But — whether or not sex toys are to get your fill, Electric Pussy will most certainly give you pleasure.

What do we know about Electric Pussy? Those magicians of stoner-doom tell us only a few things about themselves at Bandcamp, obviously preferring to remain incognito. So, here we have a band from Cherkasy, playing mostly instrumental music, laying their heavy riffs on the altar of stoner-doom. Having recorded and released three albums, they haven’t betrayed themselves in terms of sound and they still knock us down with rather thick and heavy stoner-doom, although this time having added weighty synths to the long-play. The release, is traditionally, a four-track compilation.

"Black Mountain", the opener, starts with heavy synths and bass, immediately setting the slow pulsating rhythm of a heavy riff, pushing you out of any reality you are in, and totally absorbing all of your attention. Distorted, sullen vocals (at the end of the track, very scarce), and the extremely heavy drum rhythm, charged with a fair dose of "coke, alcohol and weed" (c), immediately set you onto the waves of this alcohol/coke inspired odyssey, evoking the association with the "Dopesmoker" by Sleep and pulsating with QUOTSA`s echoes of "The Desert Sessions", the very first of which was recorded, as the legend has it, with the musicians being completely fazed under psilocybin. If you are a fan of the genre, this nine-minute opus with a somewhat chaotic guitar solo at the end will undoubtedly suit your taste and immediately help you get in the mood. And — no, it’s not at all alike Black Sabbath. Rather, somewhat like Sleep, Bomg or Electric Wizard, although comparing is really a Mug`s game.

"Mass of the Dead" takes us... to the mass of the dead which really isn`t that fun. Same heavy rhythm, same riff thickness, monotonous, gloomy vocals and fuzz, and bass sounding as if you could cut concrete through with it, or, well, hammer those nails into your righteous life, which obviously stopped being so righteous from now on, had it been so before. Another slow burner, only that this time the track is shorter.

With the same extremely slow and heavy pace, we are entering the electric dawn ("Electric Dawn" is the next track`s title). Here this bass introduction gets us to the third part of the doom symphony, which sounds all the same slow, fuzzy and occult. Slowing down to the end, the track adds more to that overwhelming insight effect, as if provoked by acid.

Being a great climax, the nine-minute "Mistress of Doom" is enlivening that slower-than-mid-tempo release. As thick as in previous tracks, the bass even resembles percussion, monotonous vocals are rather a mantra/spell invoking either Hecate, or Lamia, or enlightened Dakini (the one on the cover obviously), with her bringing dark revelations and instantly bringing hell to where heaven used to be.

As the information about the band is extremely scarce, we won`t obviously know if Electric Pussy are one of the incarnations of Aleister Crowley who knew everything about dark cults and witch covens (no) and about cocaine invoked trips. Although this release doesn`t bring any innovative spirit, it is undoubtedly a very powerful and solid genre product that could become an excellent soundtrack to Kenneth Enger's "Invocation of My Demon Brother" and that forty-minute release is definitely worthy of your time. Ave, Electric Pussy
