Weekly Digest October 4-10

What we have today is Texas death metal by Creeping Death, new Trivium, The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die, classic and technical death metal, as well as black metal with elements of spaghetti westerns and bestial one, not to mention punk rock and arthouse metal... It’s all, as usual, in our Weekly Digest.

ANTICHRIST SIEGE MACHINE — Purifying Blade

Bestial black metal or war metal is the rage of black metal, multiplied by the speed and intensity of the grindcore, to the product of which some leather, gas masks, sunglasses at night, weapons and black or red colors are added. Beware ANTICHRIST SIEGE MACHINE.

Atræ Bilis — Apexapien

Technical death metal from Canada, the debut full-length "Apexapien" by Atræ Bilis hits hard with a strict concentration, discipline and a stunning wall of sound flying at the listener. The band's debut EP was released on Transcending Obscurity, and the full-length album is released on another iconic extreme label — 20 Buck Spin, so you know that the quality level is high.

Bornwithhair — When The Witches Fall

The very creepy duo calls their music ‘lo-fi arthouse metal’ or ‘blackened death rock’ and although it may seem just like band's attempt to write pathos words in a press release to get media attention, turning on "When The Witches Fall" makes you realize these are very accurate and honest tags. The last time I was so surprised by seemingly unmixable styles was when I first heard an anonymous psychedelic project about black magic and "death’s head", if you know what I'm talking about. I strongly advise you to check out Bornwithhair, I personally can't stop listening to it.

Blood Red Throne — Imperial Congregation

True Norwegian Death Metal from the veterans. There might be no experiments or new forms, but the old-school sound, riffs, heaviness, groove, squall fire of percussion — all the things we love in this thirsty for blood genre are in there.

Creeping Death — The Edge Of Existence EP

New wave of American hardcore death metal, Creeping Death from Texas released a powerful LP "Wretched Illusions" in 2019 and began to gain momentum, but due to the pandemic could not fully enjoy the tour life. Concerts are back and the new EP of Cowboys is created to shred. "We recognize that we're a selfish band because we really only write music for ourselves," — the guitarist Trey Pemberton explains. "We create music that we enjoy playing and that we love to listen to. After all, we are the ones who hear these songs most often while playing them live".

The Last Gang — Noise Noise Noise

The Last Gang is punk from sunny California, but despite this, as well as the presence of a weak fate and reggae influences, the album "Noise Noise Noise" is still the same as in the case of The Clash or their colleagues Chords Get Dead, from Fat Wreck Chords, not that merry and sunny music, the pain and sadness is felt through it.

Trivium — In the Court of the Dragon

I do not understand why people listen to Trivium in 2021, I did not manage even through all singles, but maybe someone still enjoys it, and if that’s the case — let us know in the comment section.

Untamed Land — Like Creatures Seeking Their Own Forms

Using the experience and nuances of different atmospheric metal trends, Untamed Land from Ohio tries to add the atmosphere of classic Ennio Morricone / spaghetti westerns to these more standard black metal moves. I want to rewatch "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", but imagining everyone with a corpsepaint now.

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die — Illusory Walls

Atmospheric emo/indie from Connecticut. I love this band, I love their long and beautiful name, which immediately sets you up for the right vibe to listen to. "Illusory Walls" is the band's fourth full-length album, the name of which is taken, unexpectedly, from the video game Dark Souls. "Illusory walls refers to a hidden surface that seems to prevent entry, but upon inspection is nothing more than a visual illusion," — the vocalist/guitarist David F. Bello says. LP takes on the weight of human existence while it’s buckling under the pressure of today’s near-dystopian society.
